Maybe if it goes on to long, after a certain tick number, the winners can split the pot. That way if someone just never dies, the challenge can still have the payout.
I thought it might be fun after the reset to see who can go the longest before dying. The winner would then get a pot of diamonds from all participants!
So we'll all agree to pay 16 diamonds to the winner. Play until you die, then screenshot your death with your ticks below it. Whoever has the most ticks when they first die wins!
If you don't show your death with ticks you are disqualified.
Also there are ways to be lame and win, but hopefully it will be with people who are in it for the competition.
Anyone think we could do this?

Hmmm, if you all weren't so trustworthy, this would seem reeeeally suspicious.
We did a poll to reset after the hack in 1.8, mainly because we had lost weeks of work, which pushed a lot of people (including myself) to vote for a reset. The poll was still close if I remember correctly.
The hardest part about the poll is making sure all players know about it. A lot of players do not frequent the forums, so conducting a poll exclusively on the forums could skew the results. During the poll, Crafty made a prompt in game, like the vote link, for the poll, which I thought was a fair way to go about it.
I think giving the poll an active week of voting OR advertising for a week with in-game server messages when the poll will take place, would be the most accurate gauge of player opinions.
Of course all of this is pure speculation and opinion, ultimately the choice is up to Crafty.
So all of the arguments for and against a reset are in other posts, this one is purely if one DOES occur. My base takes up a total of 16 chunks, but days if not weeks of my life have been put into molding those chunks, and to have them completely vanish is beyond disheartening.
This is my suggestion:
I pay a fee (an extra months VIP would be an example) towards the server, and Crafty could MCEdit the chunks I need into a blank map, and send those to me, which would allow me to put them into my personal SINGLE-PLAYER survival.
I am under no illusion of having my builds move over to the new map, but losing them entirely would almost certainly prevent my return to CraftyMynes, purely because my motivation would be gone.
Believe me, I understand that it is a survival, raid/grief server, and a total base destruction could happen at anytime, that's what makes it so fun! But there is just something different about the reset, and obviously I'm having a hard time adequately putting it into words, but there is a difference.
I know MCEdit is tedious and time consuming and that is why I am very willing to pay to have it done, it means that much to me.
Thank you for at least considering this,

@Pimpcy I get what you mean; however, to me anyway, the suspenseful thrill of being raided at anytime and trying to prevent it, is what makes survival fun. But having your base wiped out because of something you have no control over is soul crushing.
@cepheid I can see where your arguments are coming from, and I am of course, not a staff member, but I have been through two CraftyMynes resets, so my opinions are based on observations following the resets.
Firstly, I agree completely with the removal of spawn eggs after the next reset. When I first heard the idea I thought it was awesome; but, after seeing it in action it does create the scenario we all wanted to avoid: Pay to win. I am be no means blaming the staff, who I know for certain try very hard to keep this from happening while also bringing in essential revenue. However the eggs have had changed the game in ways I would have never considered.
Secondly, the 1.11 update to zombie spawners. You make a great point. I created all of my villagers on the server from two villagers I converted, without a spawner. Not because I am a hipster, but because I was to stupid to think of using a spawner. I can personally attest, that creating villagers by breeding is sufficiently difficult, very time consuming, and requires learning VERY obscure fucking game mechanics.... However, like you said, its a moot point because Mojang fixed it.
Thirdly.......... Lol cepheid, I have rewritten the "Thirdly" paragraph 4 times, and I have finally realized, I agree with you completely. In survival, shulkers are not only rare, but also a fucking PAIN to get, which would drastically reduce they're potential to be over powered. Emeralds would be a second form of currency, which could even put the Emerald - Diamond trade ratio in the hands of player-created banks! Not physical bank buildings of course, but players with wealth could exchange diamonds and emeralds for a small fee.
Fourthly, I have realized my entire instantaneous and premature opposition to your arguments was born entirely from not wanting my base to disappear...
Lol, fuck you for making me learn something about myself.

@CraftyMyner, I guess my major source of distress are my builds, which are only on this server. If there were a way for me to pay for you to save the chunks that include my base, so that I can insert them into my single player world, I would be LESS opposed to a reset. Of course I knew from the beginning the finite existence of this map, but for me, I just don't realize how much I'm going to invest, until it is already invested. It would be like watching hours, even days, of my life disappearing in an instant.
@Server Community, On the topic of the economy, I think people are blaming aspects of the server for the state of the economy, and while I will agree, Egg, villagers and TPA have EXPEDITED the current state of the economy, I believe that it is inevitable. People on this server were unbelievable wealthy, long before craftycrates or villagers were implemented. I mean a matter of days, and people were beyond rich with resources. I agree that a certain point it is more fun to reset the server and begin again, but I believe making the "economy" the major reason for the reset, is naive.
TL;DR - Inflated economy should not be the reason for the inevitable reset.
This thread has spiraled a little, but I just want to put in that for me personally, a reset would be a real bummer...
