as strange as is sounds, if people have a texture with clean glass, they might run strait into a tube of glass, and cause them to fall, it would be a slight inconvenience

Use the nether roof. It's completely within the rules and much faster. If you have vip or a vip friend they can tp you there, or you can get there, again completely within the rules, using epearls or a minecart exploit.

With fire spread on some troll would have already turned the server into a charred lag hellscape ;)

The demand for gunpowder has greatly increased recently. I'm no expert but I'd say it has something to do with not being able to go outside your base at night and tear up some creepers because there aren't any. Just my $0.02
