If the islands don't go all the way down to layer 1 then you will be safe, and though It will take longer than using elytra there is much less risk of death, and you can find an island without fear of a bad landing... Just stop the machine and build up...

I honestly don't see the point in a nether highway...

The roof is flat, get speed pots and/or elytra and there is no need for a highway, even without them...

If you built the machine at building limit, being sniped is highly unlikely but if you fall, it's certain death.

I think, assuming nobody else is near you, when you leave, the machine along with your chunk is unloaded from memory so when you join back the machine is in the exact place it would have been when you left.

Correct me if I am wrong on that...

@Dannysharks With the lag, it's durability and how randomly placed end islands can be, high chance of you dying. I wouldn't even use Ender pearls XD

Very true, it sounds like any way you try to traverse the end there is a high chance of dying... I think the slowest yet safest way to travel is with a flying machine... Although I don't know if you would fall off of it if the server was to restart / you leave the game and come back

Just find a cactus and build a farm with it...

@Dannysharks I mean, you could try, If youre up for a few weeks of end travel, in possibly the wrong direction, using up inventorys of blocks and losing all your gear at least three times
Ender travel isn't fun XD It has taken me weeks to get there, using a alt to hold my place to get more blocks, food and pots.
