Soviet's thoughts: Red Army

Ever since I started playing Minecraft I wanted to create a group that would function like a government. Together we would build mighty fortresses, destroy our enemies, and have great friendships. Now the government system I always wanted was NOT a communist one, but a socialist one (and yes there is a difference.) Now, once I joined the server and created Red Army I wanted my faction to contribute to the server itself. I'm still trying to figure out how to do that and Ideas are appreciated. Now as Red Army expands I want it to be a group where people can help solve problems on top of build mighty fortresses, destroy enemies, and making friendships. The fact is there are a ton of Problems facing the Minecraft community as a whole, especially with recent scandals involving Minecraft youtubers and Children. These things need to be talked about and there needs to be a group to unite and deal with them. Red Army isn't about extortion, or griefing. It's about having fun and solving problems because that is what the Minecraft community as a whole needs. I have a discussion group for this I'll leave a link and hope to hear some ideas. While I am proud of my Faction and our accomplishments, should I be appointed staff I will resign from Red Army. I believe staff shouldn't affiliate with large groups such as Red Army because it would create allegations of favoritism.

  2. The problem with this, Soviet, is that Red Army already has a bad reputation as is. You'll really have to reach the community if you want to clear your name..

  3. indeed, if i were to ever join a faction oceania and elephantia are much more to be considered than the red army

  4. The socialist nature of The Red Army is what I have an issue with and with the actions that have been undertaken under its name. Its understandable to be proud of your faction, but in my opinion, it has gone the wrong way. Extortionating and acting as supreme leader. The entire idea behind minecraft is freedom, in a nutshell, and The Red Army oppose this, from what I have seen.

  5. Socialism in economics not in government. Our governmental system is based on democracy in which I can be outvoted (I'm not supreme leader as much as I like to act like it). Minecraft is about freedom, however total freedom is total chaos. In order to build bigger, and have more fun people have to make sacrifices and work together. That is what government is, the sacrificing of certain freedoms so a group of people can co-exist. I understand the dangers of my extortionist policy, however I believe it is actually better than our last raid policy. I'm thinking about reforms, and some ideas with that would help.

This is Minecraft. What freedoms even need to be sacrificed, other than the obvious*?

It's still not a very kind policy! You could always, y'know, just not give out people's coordinates. If you want to be nice, it's as simple as that!

*By "the obvious", I'm referring to the freedom of attacking/harming allies.

  7. We already sacrifice our "freedom of speech" as so many trolls point out, but I'm not complaining about it. When joining a faction such as mine, players do sacrifice a bit of privacy (they have an appointed base known by all other members) they also sacrifice the right to kill any Red Army members they disagree with. Then there is taxation which is a sacrifice to the Red Army as a whole, however it is to keep our p4 stock high so we can give it to our members when the time is right.

I'm curious what you mean by "freedom of speech"; I believe that you're referring to the server-wide rules, which I agree with, but you could be referring to something else. The loss of a private main base doesn't seem like an issue, either—assuming that a secondary private base is still allowed, of course—nor does the ban against killing other Red Army members.

Taxation also seems fine, if somewhat dull.

The only real issue I have with your faction is your coordinates policy, which is blatantly exploitative. Seriously, it's one step above raiding.

  9. Yes which is why I'm revising the policy. I'm not deaf to criticism and I don't want my fun to come at the expense of (too many) innocent players. I think the old policy will apply only to enemies of Red Army while the new ones will apply to all players and be much more relaxed.

I was refering to the main server rules when I mentioned "freedom of speech" but like I said, I'm fine with that.

  10. If you want to appear benevolent, I suggest your policy should be as follows:

If we find your base, we will tell you. We will not raid your base, disclose the coordinates, or otherwise harm you.

Make sure to only use the old policy when you're sure a base belongs to an enemy, too, or bad stuff will probably happen.
