@Cileklim Saves time to staff members. (obviously)
It's not easier nor does it save time to IP ban, some staff members don't have access to IP ban and it makes it more difficult to deal with collateral damage and unbans as we have to find the IP of the player.
@ZenithW I personally think that X-ray-ers should be considered as ip-banned, especially if they were caught raiding with x-ray. What if they x-ray with alt and raid with their main? Possibly even post the coords they find? It's just unfair to loyal players that spend so much time in their builds and vaults. However, i wonder if anyone ever thought about this seriously
Much time has been spent, but as this post clearly shows, you can't stop them with an ip ban, especially the ones who have alts.
@iDogeTwinkie Crafty y u deleted my post? Such sad many wows
The thread?
@Cileklim I don't get it. I don't. Are you guys saying that you have no way to permanently ban a hacker?
We don't have a way, no game provider has any way to ban anyone permanently other then stopping the server or going to the guys house and murdering them. I was once banned so hard in planetside2 that my entier isp was banned, all the hardware in my computer was banned, even the ram in my computer was banned from connecting to the planetside2 servers. I got a new computer and a new network plan and was able to play again, not even sony/planetside2 with a 50 million dollar budget could ban me. Now think about a small minecraft server with a budget of about $10 a day armed with only the info that minecraft provides (no hardware ids, just a name and ip), how the literal fuck do you expect me to ban someone forever.
If you back in CraftyMynes history you will see that we have always been hard on hackers, never have we unbanned a hackers account, we had a hacker that even managed to come back on an alt, prove his worth and become staff, his main account is still banned. People will always find away around and if they are a hacker, its likely they have a few more tools in their toolbox to evade bans. Dedicating our time trying to stop the guys that keep coming back no matter what we do is useless, we are better of catching the 1000's of other hackers.
@CraftyMyner It is true that saying you can come back on an alt is kinda defeating the purpose, but it was never my intention to publicly tell people that they are welcome to come back on an alt.
I dont know were telling players they can come back on an alt stemmed from but, it wasn't my intent to put that on ban appeals.
The ones who are going to come back on an alt are going to whether we tell them they can or not. We have methods of tracking alts and they are put high on our watch list. $30 is a much better lesson then a slap on the wrist. IP banning is used as a last resort for repeat offenders. There is often more then one player playing from the same IP, weather they are in the same house or they live on campus, banning that IP could cause collateral damage and stop legit players from playing. Even though an IP ban is better at stopping players from playing its not even close to a real perma ban, anyone with a bit of knowledge can easily bypass an IP ban. It is true that saying you can come back on an alt is kinda defeating the purpose, but it was never my intention to publicly tell people that they are welcome to come back on an alt.
@TBustah I was an idiot and didn't set a home, then got lost again. In my defense, I didn't know that you could, I was told that this server is pretty vanilla.
Anyway... one more time, please?
Not going to lie, this is a bit insulting. When you first lost your home, I was on the server within about 30 seconds ready to tp you home and you weren't there, I made a post with the cords and told you that I or an admin could tp you back (mind you, it was like 10k from spawn) I sat there for about an hour waiting for you. Then you come on here saying that I didn't respond even though I did within about 4 minutes from your post. We tped you home, and now you have gone and lost it again, seriously man? its not even that far from spawn. If it was classic vanilla you would be more likely to take down the cords to your home then if it was spigot/modded.
My god, I never thought such a simple task could be so hard. 24 hours later from when I started this project I am done. Your name color should now match your rank on the server.
The reason it took so long to get colors to update on the forum is:
For the longest time I have not been checking name case anywhere and that has really messed us up.
The flow of a donation goes like this.
BuyCraft (not case sensitive) -> VIP Manager (semi case sensitive) -> minecraft (case sensitive if you are offline) and the forum (uber case sensitive)
Players entering their name both at checkout and on the forum where not always typing the same case as their ingame name. This caused some things to not work like if you were offline when the donation came though you wouldn't get anything, or if you already had VIP in the database and you got it again with a different case, it would treat you as a new person, if your name on the forum was different it would take VIP from you and if you put your name in as a different case while you were online for VIP+ and then didn't come on when it tried to expire you, It wouldn't expire you.
Long story short, case checking/correcting has been added to usernames both on the forum and on buycraft. I have manually corrected all donors on the forum and in the database, if you have a name with the wrong case on the forums and then donate, you will need to let me know so I can change the case of your name.
Note: Names on the forum don't update instantly. Edit: Because I am awesome, I got it to update when it updates the rank on the server.
Hey @TBustah I did respond to about 4 minutes after you pm'ed me, I'm not sure why it didn't show up for you... iclutchHD has your cords, you can ask him to teleport you back ingame.
I plan to automate forum colors very soon.
