Well I'm sure you could with time and dedication as well as the help of plugins maintain a map indefinitely but at that stage it really isn't worth it IMO. Certainly wouldn't be very practical but if you have a lower playerbase then you could host it on HDD's which would decrease the cost.

The reason we have the Mansion issue is due to the partial reset unfortunately same with villages.

@NerdieBirdieYT servers go completely without server resets? I know of a server that has gone many years without resetting the map. Granted, they use plugins, but is there some plugin that prevents the need for wiping a map? If not, why do we reset at all when servers like that one manage to run for years without one reset? Especially with our world border, I would think it would be do-able to never reset.

    Although, I don't run any servers, so I wouldn't know. :)

Well rarely do servers have as big maps as ours.
Of course some servers just ignore or it or world edit it out, however in CM's case that wouldn't really help.

Though Spigot/Bukkit does have various mechanics which do help corruption too.

    @Scrappy_Dont I beg to differ: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2017/08/intel-i9-7980xe-launch-date-price/

Perhaps in September the server will be an absolute behemoth.

That's not relevant, the vanilla Minecraft jar makes use of single thread speed, not multiprocessing capabilities. As NutjobBob says that would actually be a downgrade from our current set up, it'd have more power but we would have less usable power.

Currently the vanilla jar only supports doing one world on each core IIRC so increasing the number of cores we have would do nothing.

As I said earlier in the thread and your link proves it quite well, Intel and AMD for a number of technical and economic reasons have moved away from increasing single thread speed and have started serious development in the area of multicore's for use in multicore processing which is something Minecraft Vanilla jars are not capable of doing. This trend is likely to continue unless some industry changing method is invented or the advent of consumer grade quantum computing.

The server could not handle an increase in the render distance without lowering the players numbers or tolerating a significant bit of more lag.
Unfortunately CPU technology is heading in the wrong direction for our usage too, moores law has been broken and it's becoming physically impossible to stick more and more smaller transistors on a chip meaning single thread processing speed which is our bottleneck will not increase significantly until thee advent of new technologies.

We just have to hope Mojang will finally adapt the vanilla server jar for multiprocessing or at least fix the major bugs.

They already get the meat to support them when they join and vote. Iron armour as well, what else can we give them ? Diamond armour ?

Items given to newer players would be mostly worthless to older ones anyway which wouldn't encourage voting among them which is the goal since it shocks me how many people play this server for hours every day and don't vote.

    1) A joke doesn't immunize you to the rules.

    2) Doesn't matter, you don't post external domains on CM, don't pretend to break a rule. It's perfectly possible to advertise something non existent too, think about it.

Since you aren't sorry clearly, you will be unbanned in 3 days.

Yes a voting reward is not supposed to unbalanced or interfere with the game, that's not it's purpose.

I would sincerely hope that people would vote not just for the obvious reward but the fact it keeps the server alive and without it we would get very few new players.

@Grassling You are completley different people but you are part of the same team enforcing the same rules what kind of response is that.

As venetorem said we do sometimes make on the spot decisions which may be reversed upon later discussion.
Generally however this is a rare occurrence.

For example we recently decided to forbid eggs in spawners after discussion about the effect on the economy. I doubt anyone has contradicted that since the decision. Its not realistic to expect the rules to stay stagnant and not change.
