I've seen xp banking implemented on another vanilla server. You could stand on top of any enderchest and it would drain your xp incrementally. Then if you stood under an enderchest it would fill you back up with xp. I haven't seen player to player transfers implemented on vanilla. There was a thread a long time ago about xp bottling, which could be one way to trade xp.
I wouldn't be surprised if Crafty comes up with some sort of xp banking or bottling system some day, but I totally agree that the engineering difficulty seams high and the roi relatively low.
If you removed all valid places for portals to spawn then the game will spawn a floating one. Best plan is probably to not have portals at all.
Also have you tried turning it off and back on again?
You need to include details or we can't help you. There are dozens and dozens of useful details. You didn't include any of them xP
Here a just a few examples:
Details that establish that your problem isn't upstream:
Other devices on the same network have internet access.
Using the same Ethernet cable etc. on another computer works.
Etc. Etc.
Hardware specs. Is it a laptop or desktop. What mobo? How is it connected to the internet? Etc.
Software/OS Details. Window? Linux? Mac? What version, build, servicepack, etc.
Screenshots or other translation of all the technical goop. For instance what does it look like in device manager, various networking dialogs, etc. etc. ("the ones for the internet" is not specific enough)
It's possible to lag such that on the server you are dead but on the client you are still alive. Then when you log back in you get the death screen. If you see mobs stop moving, it's best to relog.
@Retrochewy whats VPN
Virtual Private Network is one of a few ways that you can reroute your internet traffic.

Mojang has banned VPN's for unkown reasons. if you log in with one it will log you out and in some cases changes your password. so if you don't have your login details to get your account back, i do not suggest you use a VPN
I don't think you are correct. I don't want anyone to be discouraged from making improvements to their privacy/security, because they think they will loose their account. Off the top of my head here are some things you would want to keep in mind about a VPN:
Assuming you get VPN service from a reputable source, you should not have any issues beyond a slight additional lag.
Are you having issues downloading? What are you using to download the installer? What is your OS? What is your browser?
If the file is downloading properly, but won't install. Have you tried re downloading the installer? Have you tried the legacy launcher?

Posting what steps you take to get the bug, any error messages you get, and optionally screenshots will help us help you.
HI Ceph,
Quite the exposé.
CraftyCrates, heads, and other overpowered items
I feel like you are making a bigger deal out of this then it actually merits. Having some sort of perks is necessary to run the server. Giving out a fortune III arrow is not a big deal. Even if donors were getting a fortune X arrow it's still just another cool item in line with the whole point of having Crafty Crates. Heaven forbid people get a few more potatoes.
You and I have talked in detail about the selling of rare items (dragon egg, heads, etc.). I'm kind of horrified by the idea of you or other people trading the fruits of so many hours of gameplay for one cosmetic item. However, I don't blame Crafty for what Mojang implemented. There's room for improvement, but I'm not shocked or offended that these game mechanics were left standing.
Secrets
If there's some invisible toxic culture among staff, it's none of my business, but I wish you all the best of luck in sorting that out. A public thread might not have been in the best taste.
sknup's base
It's Crafty's Server. He can do what he wants. No one is getting hurt by this. Get over it.
Confusing rules
Suggestions on how to make the rules more clear? Sounds great. Let's do it.
Refusing to admit mistakes / Staff's resistance to suggestions
There's some room for constructive feedback here for staff but I don't have any more time right now to write, sorry.
