And, as expected, both players and staff have made this into a pointless, pathetic argument about something like IP addresses and their legal usage.
I give up on this thread. We had a good start, and many people (both players and staff) presented very good and accurate information, but unfortunately some people (again from both sides of this) can't handle an argument if they don't win on every freaking detail.
I can't believe we started with a discussion about staff and we've gotten to here:
"That's how data laws work its a difficult balance between free speech and the right to privacy. I hope this clears up your confusion, an understanding of data laws is becoming more and more essential in the business world."
- simply because some people (yet again, not just calling out r4, many made mistakes here, including me) have to be right on every point.
So keep arguing over USA legislation, I guess. I thought we could do this like mature people. I was wrong.
If staff feels this thread should be locked, I no longer mind.
As nearly every staff member as mentioned, if this thread turns into arguments over whether the word "slander" was used in the correct legal fashion and crap like that, then everyone may as well stop now.
If you have something to ADD to this discussion (as nearly all the posts since last night have), then feel free.
While @rnc2011 's post doesn't FIX the issues, it certainly managed to cool me down several notches, lol. Very glad to have you on staff, dude. :)
Episode 17 is up! Super neat end structure in there. Also I die. So that's fun. XD
I don't know if there's a link limit and I'm not sure what to do after I hit said limit on the first post of this thread. XD
@rnc2011 Are you the wind because that response just blew me away XD
SO happy to hear that staff will be discussing this. Regardless of either side's points on the subjects, it's quite obvious there are some big issues and miscommunications within the community - not only in staff, but in the playerbase as well.
As a suggestion:
If staff DOES decide to take this seriously, I would recommend creating a new thread, one regarding ideas on how to improve the system, rather than using this one, which could stir up bad emotions in everyone.
Thank you for your kind reply! :)
@KungFuBuscus Perhaps this is a private server with rules set in place for a specific reason. I do not think your ban is unjust, considering personal information outside of a virtual fantasy world is touchy. If people don't want their shit leaked, don't do it.
By the looks of it Grassling, you have been a bad boy and your past has caught up to you. Perhaps this mishap was the final nail in the coffin for you.
Grassling did not leak. That information was public. He used well-known information that was also used by a staff member.
@Naidae And I would agree as well, except, yet again, he was warned for releasing private information.
Not names. He was not told to stop using first names.
And Vene's first name is allowed in general chat, apparently, or, only by people he wants to use it, because he's staff and does what he wants.
After Grassling uses this non-private information in chat, he is banned.
You see the issue?
@Venetorem I banned you because you decided to respond with a smart ass remark, and obviously didnt care about the fact i obviously didnt want you to
@Venetorem So no, you were not banned for "a smart ass remark"
I'm confused.
@Venetorem He was not told to stop saying names. He was told to stop revealing private information. Your first name isn't private information.
