Post in this thread if you want to be invited to Elephantia's new base! There's nothing there yet, but the construction might be exciting!
Demands aren't necessarily entitled. They certainly can be, but they aren't always; they can be justified. If a starving man demanded a seat at a banquet three feet away, would you call him entitled?
As for fairness: I assumed that the line I quoted was a justification for unfairness—that is, since the world isn't always fair, you should not expect it of people. I may have misinterpreted that line. However,
Make warmth to keep your word and be fair, but don't believe this some how entitles you to the same treatment.
^ this quote seems to reinforce that. I fail to see how an expectation to be treated fairly is "entitlement"; is fair treatment not a fundamental requirement for a positive society?
Asking for an explanation is hardly entitlement, if an explanation is needed. In at least one case, that explanation was needed; one faction had, seemingly unprovoked, attempted to infiltrate another.
The world we live in is cold, it doesn't care about fairness or promises so make no demands and have no expectation.
Do you really think that fairness has no value? If you do, you shouldn't hide behind "the world"; if you don't, you are the entitled one—to assign no value to fairness, you must have experienced little of its opposite.
If someone refuses the alliance, your process basically allows for whatever you want, based only on "opinion"—and base value, which is even worse.
If you want to appear benevolent, I suggest your policy should be as follows:
If we find your base, we will tell you. We will not raid your base, disclose the coordinates, or otherwise harm you.
Make sure to only use the old policy when you're sure a base belongs to an enemy, too, or bad stuff will probably happen.
@sovietsuperman We already sacrifice our "freedom of speech" as so many trolls point out, but I'm not complaining about it. When joining a faction such as mine, players do sacrifice a bit of privacy (they have an appointed base known by all other members) they also sacrifice the right to kill any Red Army members they disagree with. Then there is taxation which is a sacrifice to the Red Army as a whole, however it is to keep our p4 stock high so we can give it to our members when the time is right.
I'm curious what you mean by "freedom of speech"; I believe that you're referring to the server-wide rules, which I agree with, but you could be referring to something else. The loss of a private main base doesn't seem like an issue, either—assuming that a secondary private base is still allowed, of course—nor does the ban against killing other Red Army members.
Taxation also seems fine, if somewhat dull.
The only real issue I have with your faction is your coordinates policy, which is blatantly exploitative. Seriously, it's one step above raiding.
That is what government is, the sacrificing of certain freedoms so a group of people can co-exist.
This is Minecraft. What freedoms even need to be sacrificed, other than the obvious*?
I understand the dangers of my extortionist policy, however I believe it is actually better than our last raid policy.
It's still not a very kind policy! You could always, y'know, just not give out people's coordinates. If you want to be nice, it's as simple as that!
*By "the obvious", I'm referring to the freedom of attacking/harming allies.
@Chips_The_Gamer Okay. I'll blow up more next time , set some trees on fire , maybe even get a little lava in there. And a trap would be nice too. :D
Sounds exciting!
The tower's been blown up, but don't fret: A better, taller tower will rise in its place! How exciting!
To the builder of the small hut outside: I'm afraid that that was destroyed, as well. Condolences!
