It's great to have plans but you should know the difference between needs and wants. Marriage and kids are no joke. Wanting to be married with a family within a year is a bit hasty.

    @SovietSuperman_

@Tez1010 What makes a troll into a troll is a subject that interests me greatly.

i would add to Naidae's list a skewed view of the internet where they cant see another person is on the receiving end.

@DoppyRex Yeah probably true it makes being mean easier since you cant see em

I remember an article back in the late 90s first talking about this when most of the world was still using dial-up - and the topic of anonymity, internet, and trolls has been revisited almost every 3-6 months since.

There two different types of people being mentioned here, the troll and the cyber bully. Cyber bullies came about with the millennial generation as the world grew up with the internet (and was further adopted as a weapon for older groups of toxic people) - they target specific people which push them to suicide etc. There is no effective way to stop them, aside from legal action. And in more terrible cases where there's a group of bullies, they can influence others to perpetuate the bullying with no end or escape in sight.

Trolls are attention seekers. They use the anonymity of the internet to interact unfiltered with society. In the 90s and possibly still today, they were the meek or self-confident who need to feel a level of control and/or superiority over others. Unlike the cyber bullies they have no target and simply fish for someone to give them attention. If you ignore trolls, they lose interest and move on.

Cyber bullies may do the same, but can be known double-down on the intensity of toxic words/actions until they get what they want.

As far as hackers go, according to how most governments identify them, the vast majority fall within attention seekers who hack just to do it ("entry-level threats"). The other significantly smaller percentage of them work with an agenda and are the most damaging - the US once noted less than 1% of government hacks in the mid-2000s in this category.

Hackers in games like minecraft also have a third agenda, which is just to "win." So while a great number of hackers in MC are jerks, another large part of them simply have that sense of entitlement and/or to get an advantage over others.

When caught, the hacker's response will be across the spectrum as seen here with the ban appeals - from remorseful to indignant to absolutely trolly. Not all hackers are trolls, and not all hackers are dangerous.

However they all have one major thing in common, and that's that they are all opportunists.

I would love something like this and had mentioned it I think a couple years back. But the idea then as it is now is that there is no way to fully protect player shops without admin protection, and no way to get admin protection without changing their rules for a vanilla server and some significant work.

Your best bet is probably to create a storefront and a storage area for each player and work like some kind of consignment shop. But the bigger question is what would you accomplish that couldn't be done in chat and the trade post already at spawn, that would have players work unprotected? That's been my challenge too as I've been wondering for awhile because I'm all about player economies.

Regardless, I'm interested to see what you come up with and wish you good luck.

I was watching some TED videos this week and this one video made me think of your post. Doesn't answer your question directly but helps readers understand the economics behind your question. It's in cartoon form for your viewing enjoyment too :D

I tried the new page last night. I still get the same issue on the MinecraftServers link. It says the session expired please try again. i tried restarting my internet app, restarting phone, etc but no dice, which is the usual result when I see the error (i.e., I only voted on 3 of the 4 links for yesterday).

Disregard previous link comment - I just accessed all links properly.

Issue with using phone on the big vote page for me anyways was that I'd get weird session time-out messages which I guess is a recaptcha error.

I don't think your MCSL link works.

Also +1 to OP. Since the merging of all vote links on one page I'm forced to wait until I'm on a home computer to vote so it can load properly, which isn't everyday (days that I don't get on I still try and do votes by phone).

Is it safe to assume that the 5 chunk loading distance applies when we run through our base?
