This is big news. I hope that players continue to stick with the server after the reset.

@NutjobBob @PurpleMare Ah yes, spiders are going to be a pain to use in xp farms. I tried a 2x3 sapce but you can only get up to maybe 40-45 before they start dying. I'd say just avoid using spiders for xp farms now, unless you actually want to redesign the grinder for a 4x4 area. Cave spiders should still be usable though.

The upside is if you just want the drops making a grinder is now so much easier!

One one other possibility for any mob is have several separate chambers and use the iron weighted pressure plate to count to 21 mobs (or 25 if you push some armour stands into the block).

@NutjobBob could you expand on the iron weighted pressure plate idea for me? I have not heard of such a mechanism before. A link would be much appreciated.

@megaCOOL1 Server wrapper? How am I supposed to use this in a single player or LAN world?

@megaCOOL1 Making a server wrapper, or whatever you want to call it, requires quite a bit of programming experience. It is not something that is within Minecraft, rather it is implemented at what I would call the "server level." If you have programming and/or networking experience, you will be able to make a server wrapper. If not, I would suggest not troubling yourself over it. If you need a similar mechanism in a single player world, just make a book with a bajillion links inside it where you can click on a link to make whatever you want happen. So for example in CraftyMynes you can say "serverplz stats" to get your stats, but in a single player world you could have a link within a book be the trigger for displaying a player's stats. You can make custom books that do these things by using JSON. And hook up a command block to a clock that will give this custom book to any players that have just died.

I don't think the world should be reset until there is a major update that requires it. When the update occurs, then we should implement cepheid's suggestions. Until then, I suggest we keep the server intact because players tend to leave after a reset. A reset makes players lose everything that they've poured hours upon hours into making and building, so then they're like "welp, might as well go try a new survival server now," because they have nothing to lose. This especially applies to the silent majority of players who enjoy playing on CraftyMynes without being an active part of the community.

What about for mob grinders for entities with larger hitboxes? For example I have a spider grinder. All of the spiders are shoved into a 2x2 area, so I'd have to make that area 4x4? I'd have to redesign the whole thing....

Everything you asked about can be found easily online. The first is just learning JSON, or using an online generator if you're too lazy. The third and fourth are just getting your selectors right. Playsound is a command, just look it up. The most interesting one is the second thing you asked about, the detecting things in chat. This is implemented using a server wrapper custom made by CraftyMyner and is unrelated to command blocks. Good luck finding info about server wrappers online; for the servers that do implement it, they vary widely from server to server. The server wrapper is a fairly complicated program unique to CraftyMynes, and in my opinion, is one of the reasons that CraftyMynes is better than the other vanilla servers out there.

    In Game Name: PurpleMare

    Age: 18

Time Zone: UTC-06:00 (1 hour behind server time)

    Strengths:

Minecraft related: Building anything, including but not limited to base building, redstone item sorters, mob grinders, farms
Personality related: I am easy to get along with and work well with others. I am an ambivert which means that while I enjoy meeting and talking with new people, I also am a good listener and very patient. I don’t take myself too seriously, which means I can laugh at myself and am very slow to anger or frustration. I enjoy creating new things whether it be a Minecraft build, programming a new game, or designing a website. I especially enjoy making things that will help other people or that will teach me something new by making them. Above all, I enjoy helping others, and making someone else’s day makes my day.

    Weaknesses:

    Minecraft related: PVP, PVE
Personality related: My patience also means that I may not react quickly in situations where time is critical. For example, if someone was causing trouble on the server and there were other staff online, I most likely would not be the first one to react. I like to weigh the costs and benefits before taking any decisive action.
Also, as a first-year engineering student, I do not have a lot of extra free time. When I do get free time, however, I like to be on CraftyMynes. Also my current living arrangement means that I cannot be on TeamSpeak very often, since I live on campus with a roommate.

    Why you are Applying:

Over a year ago, I joined CraftyMynes for the first time. The server didn’t have nearly as many features back then. There wasn’t a TPA, there was no jail, the server couldn’t automatically answer questions containing “serverplz” or otherwise, and lag was a constant problem. Yet, I felt an almost immediate connection with the community. The staff were friendly, and many of the other players were a similar age and had similar interests. Although many of those people have moved on now, and the number of staff and players still with the server from that time I could count on one hand, the core values of CraftyMynes have not changed. This is a server that respects players and values community. Also, this is the only vanilla server that is moving forward, innovating, and constantly improving. The changes that this server has undergone are simply mindboggling. These things are what keep me coming back. I want to give back to the community that I have enjoyed for so long.

I agree with Crafty... it would open up too many vulnerabilities... players could use mobs such as creepers, withers, ender dragons, etc to try and wreck spawn, and they would succeed if given enough time... while mobs can't actually destroy command blocks they could wreck repeaters, comparators, etc... RIP server.
You could kill dangerous mobs within a certain range of spawn... but more commands = more lag

How is it possible to build something on such a scale and not have it be discovered by other players? I built out past 80k and still chose to build below ground, at bedrock level, with less than 5 entities total to not risk being found. Aren't you worried that someone will find and grief this thing?
It's very impressive by the way. One of the coolest bases I've seen.
