Protect Cats And Dogs At Spawn

  1. 7 years ago

Simple enough, i think that all cats and dogs at spawn should be given Resistance 255, so other player dont kill them. There should be a rule that you cant have like 5 million dogs at spawn though, as that will raise entites. Looking forward to a response!

  2. If possible, it would be great

  3. This needs to happen I can't take may dogs to spawn Ever because of other players being asses and killing them.

  4. It is possible to apply effects specifically to dogs yes.
I don't know if any technical issues with doing so either.

The issue is with people accidentally and purposely leaving them behind and staff escort for admins being incapable of removing them.
Simply declaring it as a rule isn't enough.

  5. Could staff just tp them to the void?

  6. Or just kill it off?

  7. I am sure staff could bypass the resistance effect in multiple ways

That would require at least 2 more @e selectors on a timer, if we have like 4-6k mobs on that's 8-12k loops over all the entities, each with a distance calculation and type calculation. Its up to you, each feature comes with more lag. It might be a little bit here and a little bit there, but it adds up.

    How so ?
I can't off the top of my head think of anyway for anyone below admin rank to kill them.

I suspected you would say something similar, I mean the benefit of this suggestion seems limited when compared to others.

I guess if you guys really want you can do a quick in forum vote but I don't think it's really worth the effort, it's hardly a big piece of gameplay. It's not like someone will attack you in spawn anyway.

Every single pet in spawn is getting killed eventually, that's annoying for a lot of players. We should do a vote!

I mean why do you need to bring them to spawn though..
It's not like you need a wolf to defend you there.

Does this really represent a good functionality trade off to you ?

  13. Make it a rule then?

  14. I don't think pet protection at spawn is a good a trade off for a possible increase in lag (even if slight). But then again I'm someone who has no interest in bringing my pets to spawn

They don't bring their pets on purpose. Sometimes you're just wandering with your pet and you teleport to spawn just to watch it getting killed by two starters. Been there, it's worth it in my opinion..

These cases are few and far between and as noted above not really that important when compared to a minor increase in lag. You can always just TP home, no need to visit spawn.
It seems to me to be catering to the few at the expense of the majority.

  17. @Grinning_Bobcat Make it a rule then?

Making it a rule doesn't solve the problem, people often break rules either through ignorance or intentions.
I mean it's not a huge issue but its just more work for the administration...

  18. *shrugs* we just wish people weren't asshole is all :P

  19. On the old map, I accidently went to spawn once and forgot to sit my dog down before tping. Didn't even realize it was mine until I noticed it was following me around. Someone quickly named it Stinky, or something to that effect, with a nametag, and then someone else killed it 30 seconds later. Despite it being on accident, I deserved it, I brought it there and I should have known better and taken more care before tping. If you really want your pet to stay alive, then don't leave it randomly in the open or in a public place. Would you leave a real life dog just sitting in a town square?
There's absolutely no reason worth having to deal with the extra lag from protecting them, especially if it's your own negligence concerning your pet's safety. Just leave them at your base, you'll only be gone a few minutes, they won't get upset.

  20. Yeah, and for just the few seconds that someone has their pet inspawn.
