and also pvpers in 1.8 are still pretty good in 1.9, as strafing is still relevant.

Nah, nobody plays on the 1.8 server.
Strafing isn't as relevant as it was - although some skills are semi-transferrable, 1.9 is a whole new beast. -
1.9 is easy pvp and is trash. It's so slow paced. The skill gap in 1.9 pvp is pathetic
