Blindness and Night Vision

Hello everyone! Today I was playing around with /effects and i combined blindness with night vision. The result was a completely black screen. I wasn't surprised as this feature has been around for awhile, and Ive seen alot of maps that use this feature. But when my friend did it they did not get the complete black screen. We tried changing out all sorts of things but my screen remains black while my friends screen is clear. We both turned on and off optifine, but that didn't matter. Neither of us are using texture packs. We tried to match our video effects but this did not work. I am baffled by this. We tried with several more people. Some had. Complete black screen while some did not.
Any ideas why I have it but my friend does not? It has confounded several of us. Hopefully someone knows. Thank you.

  2. did you apply the effects in a different order than each other?

  3. @ardoasms did you apply the effects in a different order than each other?

An interesting thought. I think it was applyed in the order of night vision then blindness. Does the order matter? Thanks for the input!

  4. @ardoasms did you apply the effects in a different order than each other?

    is your skin harumbe?

  5. @TheForgotten20 is your skin harumbe?

    Chebacca.

Also tested it and the order did not seem to matter :(

  6. @FishW Chebacca.

could it simply be your environment or your video settings?

  7. @thegoldsmith could it simply be your environment or your video settings?

Yes that is my question though. Which video setting causes this to happen. I don't mind that it is happening/ not happening. I am just so curious andI want to know why. I will continue my testing.

  8. This would be great for pvp

  9. its possible that your videocard, rather than your video settings, is handling it differently.

Oh that is a good thought. We tried alot of the video settings and nothing seemed to effect it.

To me it just looks like the tiny render distance we had in the previous versions of Minecraft

(Mojang changed how fog renders so it looks different now)

    EDIT *Notices Rose*

Never mind, that is a previous version of Minecraft

  16. Also no my friend described her screen as like regular blindness but everything glows.

  17. @FishW My curiosity is piqued! Any chance of a screenshot?

There it is. No optifine but a texture pack on. I dont believe the texture pack affected anything.

  20. @FishW Huh, this is how these two effects used to stack way back before 1.5. Check out these old bug reports.

    https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-10480
    https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-83964

Unless she's running 1.8.8 looks like the 'bug' is back!
