Spawn is its own dimension, so it's not like people can lava cast right outside it, and adventure mode means they obviously can't lava cast in spawn. That is all.
Lava buckets don't need to be deleted on entering spawn anymore.

It's always better to be safe than sorry. Lava is not a high trade item and is quite readily available. While true spawn is in its own dimension and forces you into adventure mode we cannot forsee and/or account for every bug or exploit in the game.
So while it is quite inconvient when people forget that they have them on their person and visit spawn, I don't forsee us removing the protection anytime soon.

Well, I don't know if I am misunderstanding this but as of right now you can teleport to spawn and lava buckets won't get taken from you.
