Could this be used in the server?

So, I remembered that a while back when I played in singleplayer a lot, I found that mobs started appearing a lot when I built something up to the build hight limit. I also tried this again, and I got the same results. Mobs spawned up there like it was at night. Does anyone know if this works on the server? This could make a very efficient creeper farm.

  2. Also, I noticed that when I was up there, in the F3 screen instead of saying the biome I was in, it said "Outside of world..."

  3. I did a hardcore series on this recently. Mobs do indeed spawn like crazy up there and are not set on fire from the sun.

    Never tested this on CM.

  4. I went up to the build hight limit on CM, and it said "Outside of world..." again for the biome, but I have not tested the mob spawning yet.

  5. There is a big chance that it won't, it has been a bug that for a long time. This bug is a server jar bug which causes mob to not spawn up around that height; it has been around since 1.87 or so and the last time I checked it hadn't been fixed.

  6. @iclutchHD a bug that for a long time

Here's the bug report if anyone's interested.
It's to do with the light level being wrongly calculated (i.e. it thinks it 0).

Shouldn't effect spawn rates though. If anything the spawn rates should be lower than on the ground. I'm surprised to see you got so many mobs up there, could be just luck or maybe there's another bug in play here. I'd be interested to see the results of some more testing on the server if you feel like it. Maybe try a mob farm at the build height and see how it runs.

  7. It wounds me deeply to see that you are using a 750 ti with that cpu. I would suggest an upgrade to at least a 960 http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-960-vs-Nvidia-GTX-750-Ti/3165vs2187 or better yet a 1060 6 GB which would be great to pair with your cpu http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-1060-6GB-vs-Nvidia-GTX-750-Ti/3639vs2187

those are still way off from what the cpu can handle. its on par with the 6700 which can easily handle even the likes of 2 1080ti's in sli. id say to go with what you can afford because the cpu can handle it

  9. Uh... What? English, please?

  10. you could put in a much more powerful graphics card without an issue

  11. I was under the impression that it was a considerable bit weaker than the 6th and 7th gen of i7 but you're correct http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-6700-vs-Intel-Core-i7-4790/3515vs2293 so ignore what I said before go for a 1070 or 1080 if you can afford it or are willing to buy one.

  12. @NutjobBob I got the same results on a singleplayer world - higher rates and they don't burn in the day.

Yeah, It'll work great on single player. I was wondering if it would be of any use on the server or if the spawn rates will still be terrible. I suspect the latter because it shouldn't affect spawns but wasn't sure without testing.

  14. I started testing it with a small surface, and no mobs spawned. But it was not very big, so I should not expect much.

  15. isnt there a minimum distance for mobs to spawn? may if the platforn is really tiny that could the the issue with your spawn rates

  16. yes the distance is 24 or 25 iirc
