Movement around the map and pvp

  1. 8 years ago

I am still very new to Minecraft and this is my 1st server that I've played online.

I have the basics down. I can build a basic base, I know how to mine diamond and I know how to equip myself enough for basic tasks. What I am unsure of is movement around the map. The only way I know how to move is from where I am to home via the book. Are there other ways to move around? How do people move back to the large spawn city?

I also see a lot of PVP going on in chat. Where is this happening? In an PVP arena? How are people getting there? How are people getting equipped while away from their home base?

I live about 10 mins walking distance from the main spawn. My base was recently broken into under suspicious circumstances so I am in the process of moving away from the spawn to a more secluded area. I should be using the random 10km teleporter for this or are there other ways to do this? Again, how do I make sure I am not cut off from the player base if I move very far from server spawn?

I've never seen a single person outside of the spawn city despite living very close to it, so I am hesitant to become even more isolated.

  2. In the server, the book is your best friend. With it you can tp back to spawn, tp home, set home and use tpa. You will always be able to access spawn with the use of the book (Ever lose it, type "Serverplz book" or "book?" into chat)

Using the random tp is for the best, although to avoid raiding it is best to go past 20k, you can use f3 (Or fn + f3, you mac users) to check your coords, so the random Teleporter will being you somewhere within 10000 blocks of spawn with both the x and y coords.

The arena is the big mushroom shaped building in the centre of spawn, but pvp can happen everywhere outside of spawns.

People are rare enough to find out in the wild, but having the book means you can always tp to spawn and meet up with people ^-^

I hope ive answered any questions or worrys that you have, if youre in game feel free to ask any questions in chat, or pm a staff member. Welcome to the CraftyMynes! I hope you have fun here :)

  3. How do I know distances? I've made some maps to the step 3 size and I am unsure how large these are Km wise.

Is the spawn the place where a lot of people hang out?

  4. Spawn is exactally for that, mostly. There is a big building at spawn that looks like a mushroom, that is the pvp arena, go to the bottom to float up at your own risk. There are no kits or anything like that its your own gear and you drop it if u get killed

  5. People do hang around spawn, yes. If you hold tab in chat, people who are grey are in spawn.

Km wise, i have no idea, when im doing distances i always base thongs off blocks, so lets say the coords 3123 x 56 y 4561 z would be 3123 blocks on the x axis from spawn, and 4561 z would be 4561 z blocks on the z axis from spawn. Bascilly, the higher x and z are, whether plus or minus, the further you are away from spawn.

It is however best to build past 20000 blocks from spawn, to avoid being griefed/raided. And dont build within 1000 blocks of spawn, itll be raided easily and eventually be cleaned up by staff

  6. The reason you never see people around spawn is because thats where the full diamond seal clubbers hunt. the random tp is to get you far enough from spawn to start running in relative safety from other players. The further you are from spawn the safer you are, dont build a base you plan to stay at till at least 60,000 blocks from spawn and dont build above ground till at least 80,000 blocks. Also dont build within 1000 blocks of spawn because that area gets cleaned up often by staff. Best of luck in your travels.

    Now onto the spawn navigation:

To get to the cooking area, go as far into the room as you can and youll be teleported, same goes for enchanting. To get to pvp area just leave spawn or walk into the giant tower at the middle

  7. To calculate how far you are from spawn use this formula:

    (x^2 + z^2)^1/2

  8. Wow 80,000 blocks? Yikes. I'll have to pack up my stuff and start moving in another direction when I get some time.

Time wise in minutes, how long should I go in an direction before I get good? How long would it take me to walk/run 80km? I need to set aside some time to do this around my real life obligations.

I know how to use boats, and I found some guys horse once so I am aware of the faster ways to get around, but for devils advocate sense, worse case scenario how long to get 80km out?

  9. @Dench781 You can use the nether roof for faster travel, maybe 20-30 minutes will get you super far out from spawn

  10. Can I have the ELI5 version of Nether travel? I'm only a little familiar and have only been into one gate.

For every block you travel in the nether it is equivalent to traveling 8 blocks in the over world. Unlike the over world the nether has layers of bedrock at the top. Players can glitch above this bedrock using ender pearls, vips can also use their book to teleport onto the nether roof. The nether roof is a nearly infinite plane of bedrock, meaning there are no hills, lakes or other obstructions to slow down travel.

  12. Once you get into the nether and travel a huge distance how do you get out? Create another gate?

is it hard to glitch out onto the bedrock roof of the nether? Is it allowed on this server since it's a glitch?

  13. epearling through is allowed, other ways are not

Epearling through the roof has been made a little more difficult in 1.9, but it is still possible.
This video ought to explain how to do it.

The player is in 1.8, but this method does work in 1.9. Alternatively, if your VIP, you can use the warp to the nether roof.
As for getting off, you will need obsidian and flint and steel to create another portal, leading you out to your area of choice in the Overworld. Remember; X and Z Cords in nether x 8 = X and Z Cords in Overworld. Also as a hint of advice, Don't go past 12,500 in the nether in any direction and portal out as this might lead you out past the world barrier in the Overworld, causing death.

  15. If you pass 12500 in the nether, lets say 20000, the portal will bring you to the world boarder, not past it, from what i know

  16. @Dannysharks If you pass 12500 in the nether, lets say 20000, the portal will bring you to the world boarder, not past it, from what i know

Yup, You spawn by the world border (I once overshot and went 20k out on the nether roof)

  17. I've moved pretty far away from spawn, something like an almost 3 hour walk/boat trip.

  18. Dench, you dont understand, if you use your guide book you can teleport to spawn and trade n stuff, and teleport back to your own set home. If you still dont get it have an admin show you

  19. @TheMightyDrex Dench, you dont understand, if you use your guide book you can teleport to spawn and trade n stuff, and teleport back to your own set home. If you still dont get it have an admin show you

    I understand that perfectly now.

What I meant was I traveled 3 hours from spawn to make my new home so it's harder to find. I now know that I can go back to spawn with the book.

    Appreciate all the help.

Good writing is a dying art. This caught me completely off guard as I read through this thread. I literally choked on my coffee at my desk laughing at the absurdity and accuracy of the mental image this conjured. Well done.
