Hi everyone, as some of you will know i have been busy getting fit and slimmer over the last few months. I have been walking, running, bjj and going to the gym. Having never run before in my life i used an app called Couch to 5k to get me started and can now comfortably run for three miles. I highly recommend it.

Was wondering if there were some others on the server who would like to exchange tips, achievements, and encourage each other. Maybe even set up a discord group?

I also found a website where we can compare running times with age related values. The Good Run Guide.

  2. I am Mr Olympia

  3. I should start working out sometime, gj @Tez1010 for keeping it going!

  4. I sometime walk a few miles

  5. I used to run 5k's most mornings but now go to the gym most days with a 5k every week or so. I like this idea and would be happy to contribute :)

  6. I live in the 4th floor (5th floor in murican-english) of an old house. There aint no fucking elevator so walking those stairs quite a few times per day, sometimes heavily packed, is enough fitness-training for me lmao

Congrats on your success and perserverance Tez!

Assuming your joints are up for it, a multi-day backpacking trip accelerates the weight loss process.

Carry a pack to bring your weight up to, or just past your pre-exercise weight.

The idea is that your body is already used to moving with the weight but your muscles and joints have strengthened enough to give you the needed endurance to walk for hours at a time.

Put in at least an honest 6 hrs of walking if you can, each day for a few days and you’ll be pleased with the results. And most importantly stay hydrated and mind your caloric intake.

If not backpacking, you’ll be surprised how much food intake alone plays into weight loss. Even temporarily not drinking beer or coffee for a month can cut your weight by 5lbs/2.2kg. But whether that’s really living is for you to decide though lol.

  8. Thank you for all your advice @Valgys. I have already lost nearly three stone and am now in the ideal weight zone, though i would love to lose a little more.

Im not sure back packing is for me - we did the Hadrians' Wall Path a little while ago and though we didnt carry all our gear did have a fair amount to carry and walked 90 miles in 7.5 days. Despite being really quite moderate on the eating for a holiday i lost little weight that week.

I have cut out sugar in my drinks and reduced my overall intake which has made a big difference. I actually exercise every morning, do two walks a week, two or three runs, two lots of bjj (grappling) two visits to the gym and a swimming lesson. So that helps to make up for too much time spent playing minecraft!

i tried boxercise which is fun but it was just before the swimming lesson and tended to make my back hurt.

  20. Thanks @Tez1010 !
Right now I am trying to use a certain routine each week. This week I am doing calf exercises, then sit-ups or squats (alternate between days), next push-ups, and finally, dumbbells.

Getting out of bed is enough work for me

  22. Lol

  23. I'm looking forward to the new year; I'm going to be totally changing up my current habits. I work from home, so I'm in front of this damn computer constantly. I need to get up and out and work on my health!

Tez, you are a great inspiration! I hope I can better myself as you have done!! Great work! :D

Over the past week and a half I've lost about 7 pounds (164 to 157ish and I'm 5'6'', sorry metric system people), I'm eating way better, I feel better about myself, and I'm running and getting better at it. It's been pretty nice. I don't miss eating many of the sweets I used to have each day, but for some reason I really miss Pop-tarts...

I'm also trying to figure out how to start a production company on my own, get good grades, work, get my license and get into college as well. I've been exhausted for the past month and I think I picked the worst possible time to decide I'd get healthier, but it's a good exhaustion.

I think that running site idea would be fun, and I'd love to have a new discord server for this :D

  25. @CodyJProductions Wow that's great Cody! That must be a lot of stuff to keep up with... I can't imagine doing all of that lol :D
I would like to join the discord server too. What's the invite?

  26. Well done @CodyJProductions. @Stone__Warrior i shall set it up now. It looks like we have enough interest to get it going. :D

    This is an unashamed bump!

Christmas is over. The house is clear of those leftover temptations. Perhaps the waist is a little thicker. The days are getting longer for those of us in Northern hemisphere.

So are you ready for a little challenge? Ready to set a new goal? Then come join the fit club. No one is too fit or unfit for the club. We can all set personal goals to improve our health and fitness.

Mine new year goal is to run a 10k race and swim a length of front crawl. So if you can run 5k (just over 3 miles) why not come and join me.

Or if you have never run before, then how about a goal of 5k? Think you can't achieve that - well I had never run 50 yds let alone 5k six months ago. We have a link to an app that can get you there.

Your goal is your goal and can be anything you like. Lose weight, walk more, eat more healthily. It's amazing how far you can go if you set yourself incrememtal goals. You may surprise yourself as I have! (Fully Qualified Couch Potato a year ago)

Let me know if you would like to join and I will send you an invite to the discord.

  33. I want to join. I use an app called "Runtastic" and my usual run is 10k.

  34. @Qfu I am Mr Olympia

As my walk distance has been increasing I now pass a house with 4 dogs. I haven't paid too much attention to the dogs but they have been aggressive, over the past few walks they tend to get close and bark constantly. I used to walk with my dog but after an incident where my dog was many feet behind me and after I had passed the other dogs attacked him he hasn't chosen to gollow me anymore. I walk across the road from the dogs but they think I'm invading their territory so they are aggressive. Today once got dangerously close at which point I pulled out a knife as I know what their teeth can do. I could carry a blunt object but if I had to ever use it I'm worried the dogs could become increasingly angry and may shred me or I could strike too hard and kill one which I'm not to keen to do, nor do I want to stab one. I may change my route or attempt to befriend the dogs.

  38. Just befriend the dogs...

  39. Throw em some meat maybe that will work, the owner may take that as me attempting to befriend his dogs so that I could rob his home, atleast that would be my thoughts if someone gave my dog food. I could try to talk to the owner and with his help befriend the dogs. If the owner is around me the dogs probably wouldn't see me as a threat although the only problem I see is being able to actually talk to the owner as there is no way his hyper aggressive pets would let me get to the door.

I absolutely love dogs and will greatly recommend that you befriend them by tossing them treats as you walk by so they associate you with treats and food. but i also know how much damage an aggressive dog can do, if you don't want to permanently hurt them a baton sized stick may work if you aim for the soft parts (Nose, eyes, throat, etc) but if you are being attacked by multiple dogs the best method is protect your ears and face and curl into a ball DON'T RUN except as a last resort. The baton thing should also be last resort and only done if they are going in for an attack and you cant do the ball thing for some reason. you don't run because then Pack predator instincts are activated in the dogs and they will go for your ankles and throat. Again try throwing them little bits of food and small but tasty treats from a sealed bag so they don't smell it and try and get them from you. another thing if they are as aggressive as you say it may be the case that they are either being trained to be so or have been neglected in someway in the past and you should probably call someone about them for their own welfare
